Maheshwar is a riverside town in India. Located on the banks of river Narmada in Maheshwar, this town is popular for its quaint temples, the fort that once housed brave Maratha Queen Ahilyabai and its rich handloom. I spent a day in Maheshwar beside the Narmada watching the world go by. As groups of tourists and pilgrims came and departed the bead sellers hustled along to show their bead and stone collections. Most of them were cheap imitations of real beads and stones but for the uninitiated they appeared like dream sellers who would make every wish come true with their beads !! They were all in the same business but seem to be present a different face of humanity; of hope against all odds, of sadness and of friendship.
The women were all charged up to sell, and moved in groups with a splash of colour
One man appeared to be lost in thought of earning his bread whileanother was sharing his stories of life with a smile !!
Travel Tip: Maheshwar is about 90 kms from Indore which is well connected by road, air and rail. This river side pilgrim town has something for everyone and it is best visited in the months of July to March.
