This afternoon a group of us from Food Bloggers Association of Bangalore(FBAB) dropped by at Hunger Meals to sample their home delivery menu on offer. They are currently offering Andhra Veg and Non Veg Meals as well as North Indian Veg and Non Veg Meals along with a host of mini meals.
The Veg Meals are very reasonably priced at Rs 120/- and the Non Veg Meals are priced at Rs 140/-.The Veg and Non Veg meals are pretty wholesome and comprise Rice, Chapattis, Dal, Chicken/Veg Curry, Veg Curry, Curd. The food was low oil, tasty and prepared with care. The chicken was soft and juicy and I have just fallen for the awesome mango dal which is included in the Andhra Veg meal.
The menu keeps changing and if you have Gongura Chicken one day, you may have Chicken with Drumsticks the following day or the peppery chilly chicken may be the best accompaniment for the tangy sambhar rice or the cool curd rice mini meal.
If you are from Andhra and missing the Pachadi that your mother churns out of almost everything that is edible, you will lick your fingers with this lauki pachadi. For the uninitiated, “Pachadi” is Andhra Chutney; made out of different vegetables which are raw/sometimes lightly sauted, then tempered with mustard, chilly, dal in hot oil and then ground in a grinder.
I judge the North Indian meals from the way the texture of the Paneer. I must say that they have really done well on this front as well as with the dal. The Chapatis were well made too. The Aloo Palak was just right, not too spicy not to gooey and the soon to be introduced papad curry which we tasted on the side was good too. The to be introduced chokhas and kadhi tasted good, had the touch of home cooked food.
They have taken care of the Chicken used in their curries; tasted some 5 varieties and the chicken was tender and had soaked in the gravy. So get ready for some home made pudina or dahi chicken
If you are not in the mood for a complete meal then just go ahead and order a mini meal for Rs 80/- ; Kadi Chawal or Sambhar Rice with some fried chicken !!
Speaking to the CEO, young entrepreneur Rejesh Nair; he is targeting the home cooked food audience. Having spent a good part of his college education and work life in Bangalore, he listened to his heart for the ones who are too tired to cook after a hard days work and end up consuming oily, imbalanced food every other day ruining their health. With this space getting crowded by the day, Hungry Meals will have to keep innovating on the menu; keep a check on the spice and oil as business grows and specially since the audience is drawn from various parts of India and each region has their unique taste.
